Anyone who has been burglarized understands the feelings of being violated, traumatized and angry. A burglary to a mini storage facility can cause those same feelings…no one wants a stranger sorting through their things, and many times the items stolen cannot be replaced. At Scott County Mini Storage we have taken a stand against theft from this facility by partnering with the Shakopee Police Department and becoming certified through the CRIME FREE MINI STORAGE PROGRAM.

At Scott County Mini Storage (SCMS), we strongly believe that our valued tenants should have the comfort in knowing that the items they place in their storage unit are more secured and safe, because of the proactive actions we have taken to prevent theft. Scott County Mini Storage is the ONLY certified Crime Free Mini Storage facility in Minnesota, which shows the commitment we have made to our tenants.

Our certification as a Crime Free Mini Storage does not guarantee there will never be any theft of crime activity in our facility, however, we have taken the necessary steps to avoid and prevent crime from occurring. What are some of the steps we have taken? At Scott County Mini Storage we have installed a state-of-the-art surveillance system with cameras through out the facility. Our tenants sign a “Lease Addendum For Crime Free / Drug Free Mini Storage”, which authorizes us to have the Police do a background check if we feel it is necessary. We are basically making every effort to keep criminals and criminal behavior out of our facility. Everyday our property is monitored and our staff is required to inspect the facility by doing a walk thru on a regular basis. Each of our tenants are issued an access code to enter the facility during operating hours, so we can keep track of who is in the building at all times. We work very close with the Shakopee Police Department to insure that we are doing everything we can to create a safe and secure environment for our tenants.

Where did the Crime Free Mini Storage program begin? The Crime Free Mini Storage Program was developed in 1992, and has spread across Arizona and the United States. Crime Free Programs relating to Multi-Housing, Hotel / Motel and Mobile Housing facilities are also fully functioning in the City of Shakopee. The Crime Free Programs are designed to be law enforcement driven. The Crime Free Programs are recognized across the United States and internationally as a proven crime-fighting tool. This police sponsored program is designed to be very easy, yet extremely effective, at reducing criminal activity in storage facilities.
